Does being color blind mean the end of the world?
Far from it.
So, big deal.
An optimist is a person who sees a green light everywhere, while a pessimist sees only the red stoplight... the truly wise person is colorblind.
~ Albert Schweitzer
It may be disappointing that you may not be able to become a pilot (commercial ones are still possible), police, electrician or a doctor but there are still whole lots of great professions out there.
For example, you do not need perfect color vision to be a president, actor, blogger, businessman, investor, sharpshooter, racer, sportsman and the list goes on and on.
If you are daring and hardworking enough, you can even become celebrities with color blindness.
Do you know that during World War II, American men with red-green colorblind were sent on special missions because they can detect camouflage better due to their decreased ability to see green?
Yeah, enemies find it harder to hide from us!
In this article, I will be sharing with you some of the famous color blind people.
Short Biography: It is actually quite sad to see many of his great work in the government was neglected due to the sex scandal fever with Monica Lewinsky.
Of course there were other things which he did wrong, but then again, which president did not have something dirty up their sleeves.
Plus he is humorous too. That should count for something right?
Bill Clinton inherited his color vision deficiency from his parents. He needs a special light in order to determine the color of a certain object.
He also has difficulty when it comes to signals from individual colored lights, so he makes use of a special light system in order to distinguish the right color of objects.
Profession and Achievements: 42nd President of the United States (third youngest president in America history) and 40th and 42nd Governor of Arkansas.
Personal Favorite Quote: If you live long enough, you'll make mistakes. But if you learn from them, you'll be a better person. It's how you handle adversity, not how it affects you. The main thing is never quit, never quit, never quit.
Short Biography: Even though he had passed on for several decades, Bing Crosby’s voice is one of those that will not be forgotten.
You are most likely hear his famously acclaimed song “White Christmas” during the Christmas season (it was rumored that this was why his son hated Christmas as the radio stations kept reminding him of his childhood abuse).
This 20th century singer was known for his baritone voice and his loud clothing – Bob Hope (a comedian) especially loved criticizing Der Bingle for his bad taste.
The reason for his bad day clothing?
Bing Crosby was a colorblind. “He will think something is a beautiful blue,” his wife once elaborated, “and it will turn out to be a bilious green.”
He had even worn two different colored socks (black and red) and thought that they matched.
Profession and Achievements: Singer (one of the best-selling recording artists of the 20th century), avid golfer, actor, winner of Academy Award for Best Actor, Grammy Global Achievement Award, Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award
Personal Favorite Quote: There is nothing in the world I wouldn't do for Hope, and there is nothing he wouldn't do for me... We spend our lives doing nothing for each other.
Short Biography: Bob Dole was an attorney and retired United States Senator from Kansas from 1969–1996.
During his campaign for presidency, Bob Dole needed special lights to know when he was appearing on camera.
Having inherited red/green color blindness, he had difficulty with signals based on individual colored lights.
Thus a three-light system was developed during the 1996 debates to alert him when his time was running out.
Profession and Achievements: Attorney and Kansas Senator
Personal Favorite Quote: Things are going to get better. Be optimistic.
Short Biography: My favorite director and producer of the 21st century. His remake of Batman is absolutely fascinating.
I love his Joker who is of no joke at all. No more clown and ridiculous stunts. Just pure psychotic being of chaos.
Thank you Heath Ledger for your wonderful work. You are missed dearly.
What’s hard to believe is that Nolan is a red and green color blind. Yeah, you heard me right….
He who is known for making films like “Batman”, “Memento”, “The Prestige” and “Inception”.
He who loves to overawe audiences with stunning effects and daring shots is a color blind.
Can you believe he is a color blind after watching the video? Who says people with color vision deficiency cannot be great director and producer.
Profession and Achievements: Film director, screenwriter, producer and award winner of 4 Academy Award.
Nolan created several of the most successful films of the early 21st century (Including Inception and Batman Trilogy), and his eight pictures have grossed more than $3.5 billion worldwide.
Personal Favorite Quote: We all wake up in the morning wanting to live our lives the way we know we should. But we usually don't, in small ways. That's what makes a character like Batman so fascinating. He plays out our conflicts on a much larger scale.
Short Biography: Eddie Redmayne is the guy who sings and breaks hearts in the movie version of Les Miserables. Here's the video that left hearts shattering.
For Eddie, the only color he can see clearly is blue.
Which is why he wrote his dissertation on the artist Yves Klein who was famous for his electric blue color paintings.
He explained, “I wrote 30,000 words on this color, and I never grew tired of it. The pigment is staggering.
It’s amazing that a color can be so emotional. One can only hope to achieve that intensity in acting.”
Redmayne also admitted that he depends on his girlfriend Hannah Bagshawe for matching his clothings.
Whenever he is going for premieres and events, he will check with her on whether his clothes matches. “I'm lucky to be with someone who is very supportive.” said Eddie.
Profession and Achievements: Actor, model and singer. Winner of 5 awards and nominated for 11.
Personal Favorite Quote: Listen, acting is not surgery, it's entertainment. You're doing something to hopefully move people, to make them laugh, to transport them. But actors are vulnerable, and the reason we're vulnerable is that we're always trying to recreate human behavior.
Short Biography: Nope. you will not see him in any of the magazine nor he has his own autobiography.
Even though this guy is not famous (it's hard finding his picture), I thought his story is worth mentioning.
Moser was Crayola's most senior crayon molder.
After 37 years of employment, it is estimated that he had molded more than 1.4 billion crayons.
The most amazing thing is he has blue-green color blindness which meant that he couldn't see most of the colors he was making!
It wasn't until he retired that he revealed this big secret.
Profession and Achievements: Master Crayon Maker (molded more than 1.4 billion crayons) and having Icehouse (an Australian band) paying tribute to him with their 1987 album Man of Colours (how cool is that!).
Personal Favorite Quote (from others on him): He’s green-blue color blind, but despite his handicap, he had gone to the top of his trade.
Short Biography: I love this man. He is no doubt one of the greatest influence for good. “Mister Rogers,” is affectionately remembered for putting on a hand-knit cardigan (knitted by his mother) at the beginning of each show as he sang “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?”
He is red-green color blind (which means that he never saw the color of his famous red cardigan) and has a hard time determining pea soup and tomato soup.
He was said to have asked help his colleague to taste the soup and tell him the flavor. If it is a tomato soup, he will add sugar into it.
This presentation shows how passionate he is about children education. It gives me goosebumps and watery eyes every time I watches it.
Profession and Achievements: American educator, author, Presbyterian minister, songwriter and television host of the popular long running children's TV program Mister Rogers' Neighborhood
Personal Favorite Quote: Knowing that we can be loved exactly as we are gives us all the best opportunity for growing into the healthiest of people.
Short Biography: You probably know him through the entertaining variety show “Deal or No Deal”. But did you know that he is actually the voice behind the creature Gizmo in the hit film “Gremlins”? I certainly didn't!
I remembered wanting Gizmo as pet so badly (how can you not? Its so bloody cute!) that I clung onto my dad’s leg and begged for one.
The torture continued midway through the show until I realized that the mogwai can multiply and turn into horrendous gremlins, I begged my dad to turn off the television instead. Come on… I was a kid.
Other than struggling with OCD and ADHD, Howie is color blind too. While it probably doesn't really hinder him carrying out his job on Deal or No Deal.
But it was a problem back in the day when he was selling carpet. "There were a lot of ugly homes in Toronto because of me," he said in an interview.
Howie mentioned in another interview that his wife just wanted for his involvement for everything.
He will be asked for an opinion on the decoration on the house, even if the constant reply is “The color crashes”.
Profession and Achievements: Actor, comedian, television host, and voice actor.
Personal Favorite Quote: We were a very small circle of writers. Everybody brought to the table their own life experience.
Short Biography: One of the most familiar figures in the history of the Television and radio medium. He had been in the medium for 66 years and has broadcast from every continent and both poles!
After leaving ABC’s Television program and broadcasting, he is currently spending his time pursuing other hobbies like composing, flying, riding, sailing, travelling and science studies.
During his childhood, Downs aspired to become an artist. But that dream was shattered when he discovered that he was color blind at age 13.
Thanks to his dad’s influence, he picked up broadcasting instead and started his career as an announcer.
Being severely color blinded, Downs depends on his wife to help him with clothing choices.
She set up a number coding system where she will label one group of matching clothing and stick “1” on all of them, “2” on another group and so on.
Profession and Achievements: Television host, TV producer, news anchor, game show host, broadcaster, author and music composer. Winner of 6 Emmy Awards.
Personal Favorite Quote: A happy person is not a person in a certain set of circumstances, but rather a person with a certain set of attitudes.
Short Biography: “The Golden Bear”. Jack Nicklaus is recognized by many as the most accomplished professional golfer at all times, winning a total of 18 major career championships.
The world famous golfer has red-green color deficiency. He has to depend on his wife for his clothes color coordination and his cabbie to tell him the colors on the leaderboard.
“I can’t make out any of the numbers on those charts they show you in standard test for color blindness.” said Jack Nicklaus.
Here's a video of some of Nicklaus best shots but be warned though.. The music is pretty darn irritating.
Profession and Achievements: 73 PGA Tour Wins, most wins at The Masters with 6, and The Players Championship with 3
Personal Favorite Quote (Too many good ones): Success depends almost entirely on how effectively you learn to manage the game's two ultimate adversaries: the course and yourself.
Short Biography: Dalton is the pioneer in the development of atomic studies. Born in a poor Quaker family, Dalton grew up working in field and family shop where clothes were made.
Even though he didn't receive much formal education but though luck (meeting mentors), willingness to learn and perseverance, he was able to become a teacher in Manchester where his legacy began.
As he and his brother both had color deficiency, Dalton was highly interested in the subject of color vision. In fact, one later, he published his first paper on "Extraordinary facts relating to the vision of colors." in which he gave the earliest account of color deficiency.
He believed that color deficiency was due to discoloration of the aqueous humor, his was blue and it filtered out all other colors.
This research is so broadly recognized as Daltonism and later became a common term for color blindness.
He was so passionate about his research that he left a will to get an autopsy of his eyes after death. Even though no discoloration was found in his aqueous humor, this experiment proved that the cause of Daltonism lies in the sensory power not the eye itself.
Profession and Achievements: Teacher, chemist, meteorologist and physicist. Pioneered studies on atomic theory and Daltonism became a common term for color blindness.
Personal Favorite Quote: This paper will no doubt be found interesting by those who take an interest in it.
Short Biography: This guy has been in several great shows. Starred in Speed and of course Neo of Matrix (my all time favorite though the rest of the trilogy sucks!!!!).
Even though his acting skills left a lot to be questioned (his most prominent facial expression is poker face), but he is still one of my favorite actors. Probably due to the magic of great producers lol.
There is no confirmed source on whether Keanu Reeves is color blind or not.
However from a 1991 interview, he composed a poetry on the spot which he often does: "I think of black and I think of blue / I think of red and I think of you / I think of yellow and I think of mauve / No more colors do I know…" the absence of mentioning green may indicate that he is a color blind.
Whether you had seen Matrix or not, the retold version (from a mum) rocks! lol.
Profession and Achievements: Widely Known for his roles in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, Speed, Point Break, Constantine and The Matrix trilogy as Neo
Personal Favorite Quote: I am not handsome or sexy. Of course, it's not like I am hopeless (I agree with him totally).
Short Biography: During an interview, Marco Rubio was asked by The Hill’s Judy Kurtz what he thought about Orlando being named the fourth worst-dressed city in the United States.
“It depends on who’s judging. Some of the stuff on the runways in New York is hideous and yet it’s supposed to be high fashion,” Rubio told The Hill.
When asked in a follow-up question by about his own fashion, Rubio said he has trouble navigating through the fashion world and added “I’m colorblind.”
Rubio also mentioned that his secret weapon for treading through the fashion world is his wife Jeanette.
“I depend on my wife to match things,” Rubio told The Hill, pointing to the red tie he was wearing “Like this blue tie I have on, for example,”
Profession and Achievements: Current top Vice President contender, United States Senator from Florida.
Personal Favorite Quote: To tackle the big and relevant issues of the day with bold and innovative ideas is without question the most rewarding way to serve.
Short Biography: Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain is his pen name) moved to Missouri when he was four. At that time, Missouri was a state that had black slaves.
This experience later served as an inspiration for the fictional town of St. Petersburg in his later work: Huckleberry Finn and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.
Twain had color vision deficiency, he is unable to distinguish red from green.
Ironically, Mark Twain seemed colorblind on many aspects considering his attitude to colored people, slave and freedom.
Here's a funny impersonation of him by Hal Holbrook.
Profession and Achievements: Novelist, satirist, lecturer, humorist and author of several famous books (such as Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer).
Personal Favorite Quote: The secret of getting ahead is getting started.
Short Biography: One of the wealthiest and most influential people in the world. Personally, I don’t like how he was portrayed in the movie “The Social Network”.
Seeing how he betrayed his own partners, it makes me wonder how unscrupulous can he go?
But it is without doubt that Facebook is pretty awesome, even though I don’t actually use it.
Yeah, I don’t play FB games nor do I follow friends updates. The only time I log in is for business purposes.
I just find it too time consuming and I can better use the time for reading and spending with family.
Here’s an interesting fact about Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook. In an interview, Mark Zuckerberg said that Facebook is blue because he has red-green color blindness.
"Blue is the richest color for me. I can see all of blue," he tells reporter Jose Antonio Vargas.

Short Biography: Matt Lauer is the best known host of NBC. He started as a sideline reporter and eventually moved up to become a news anchor and TV host.
He is a great host but if you see him in any movies...honestly it’s better to avoid it like plague.
Proof? The Land of Lost is downright horrible!
Ok ok... to be fair, it does have some hilarious moments.
The interview above occurs before the time warp journey happened and the one below was interviewed after.
Like it? Check out the movie at your own risk.
What’s amazing about Matt is that he has been named best-dressed man on several lists (including Vanity Fair’s International Best-Dressed list in 2008) despite having mild color vision deficiency.
I wonder will he be willing to share his secret with me because I don’t know how to dress up well even if my life depends on it (mainly white and black coordination.)
Profession and Achievements: Reporter and television journalist
Personal Favorite Quote: I get letters from women, and they say, 'I love your Roman nose.' If I weren't on TV and I walked past that same woman, she'd go, 'Did you see the beak on that guy?
Short Biography: Err not the one which you will salivate when you see it on the dining table. He's a man... A big man in fact.
Michael Lee Aday is more commonly known as Meat Loaf (stage name). His album Bat Out of Hell has sold more than 43 million copies worldwide and even after 35 years, it still sells an estimated 200,000 copies annually.
In an effort to escape military, Meat Loaf tried to fail the Army fitness test by deliberately gained 68 pounds in over one month and listing his numerous ailments: he was color blind, had a trick shoulder and was prone to concussions.
Sadly for him, he was drafted two weeks later - which he "bravely" ignored. In Singapore, doing that gets you in jail.

Personal Favorite Quote: I never fit in. I am a true alternative. And I love being the outcast. That's my role in life, to be an outcast.

He also founded the SeriousFun Children's Network, a global family of camps and programs for children with serious illness which has served 290,076 children since 1988. He has a big heart.
From the interview, you can see that he is a faithful and loving husband too. My inspiration! Oh, Matt Lauer is in the video too.
Before becoming a screen legend, Newman enrolled hoping to be a pilot for the Navy. But he was later dropped when he was discovered to be a color blind during the flight physical.
Instead, Paul was sent to be trained as a radioman and a gunner and obviously, eventually went on to become a great actor.
Can't help to put one more video in. Their love is just too captivating.

Short Biography: Girls.. wipe that drools away. Yeah, Prince William (Duke of Cambridge) is the dream guy for many girls on Planet Earth (even my wife was one before).
I wonder does his marriage changed anything...probably not especially for those desperate housewives ^_^.
A short clip for the William fanatics out there.
How is it ladies? Did you enjoy it? I can totally imagine the onslaught of "Aw~ So cute" moments.
According to Katie Nicholl, an unnamed military source reveals: "There's a rumor that William is slightly colorblinded, which would pose a problem for night helicopter flying. He has been advised that the Welsh Guards is a safer regiment."
Other than having Harry Potter signature scar, the Prince had poor eyesight too.
In October 2005, it was reported that after finding out that he may have to wear glasses full time, he wished to undergo laser treatment (wished that he had read about dangers of LASIK) to correct his vision permanently.

Personal Favorite Quote: The thing is with me, I look on the brighter side of everything. There's no point being pessimistic or being worried about too many things because frankly life's too short.
Short Biography: One of the greatest villain actor of all times. Rutger became a sailor at the young age of 15 and spent a year scrubbing decks aboard a freighter.
However like his grandfather, he was color blind. The color vision deficiency stopped his track of furthering his career as a sailor. 10 years later, he made his first debut in the movie industry and became a world famous actor thereafter.
Here a video with David Letterman for you to know Rutger Hauer better.
